How it works

By registering, you help refugees find safe homes while coordinating with IOM and property owners to meet their requirement.

NGO Properties
  • 1

    Create a profile

Express your interest in becoming an NGO partner on our platform via our form

  • 2

    Apply for properties

Once your profile is created and approved by an IOM staff, you can review the information of different refugees and apply for properties based on their requirements.

  • 3

    IOM endorses applicants

Send these applications to the IOM staff for review.

  • 4

Landlord reviews applicants sent by IOM

After reviewing the applications, IOM will send the list of potential candidates to the landlord, who decides which applications to accept for their property.

  • 5

    Property is rented out

The direct lease agreement is established between the landlord and the refugee.

  • 6

    NGOs assess matching experience

NGO can continue to support the refugee and landlord for 6 months after the signing of the contract if necessary, and depending on the NGOs supporting capacity. An evaluation moment, conducted by the NGO after 6 months, will assess the matching experience of the refugee and the landlord

Why join our platform

Free access to our platform

NGOs can use our advanced housing matching tool at no cost, enabling efficient coordination and case management.

Expanded housing opportunities

IOM’s sensitisation campaigns aim to steadily grow the pool of private market housing, giving NGOs more options to match refugees with suitable homes.

National-Level outreach

IOM's extensive campaigns engage landlords across the country, amplifying NGO reach and effectiveness.

Translating local realities into policies

IOM acts as a bridge between policymakers and local actors, facilitating dialogue and ensuring that the policy level is informed by the realities facing NGOs, while also enabling NGOs to access national strategies and best practices.

Strengthened partnerships

Joining this initiative connects NGOs to a coordinated network for collaboration and resource sharing.

Community engagement through volunteers

Volunteers bring fresh energy and skills, helping NGOs scale support and foster solidarity. (Visit our RISE website for more details.)

Housing Actors

On this social map, you can find a range of actors providing housing-related support and/or information services. To better understand the type of assistance offered by each organisation, you can filter the results by categories of support.

If you are interested in integration support services for refugees beyond housing, please consult this service map, developed within the framework of the RISE project, funded by the EU.

Not all of these services are able to provide immediate or short-term housing solutions!

Access to public social housing and private social housing schemes such as social rental agencies (SVK/AIS) often involves waiting periods that can extend over several years, depending on the region in Belgium.

Still, early registration remains highly recommended. It is a necessary step to secure more affordable housing options in the medium to long term. Moreover, being registered in the social housing system can grant access to additional forms of financial support, such as rental subsidies.

Therefore, even in situations of urgent need, being informed about these mechanisms and registration is a crucial investment in their longer-term housing stability.
