Anonymous browsing

To improve the User(s) browsing experience, IOM uses cookies that collect information on the User(s) browsing behaviour when using the PATHS Platform. Cookies enable IOM to better tailor its Platform to the Users needs and preferences. By using the PATHS Platform, you agree that we can place cookies on your browsing device. Cookies can be switched off by changing the browser settings but doing so may affect the functionality of certain areas of the Platform.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small data files placed on the User’s computer or other devices when the User visits the Platform. The data that cookies collect are different than any personal information that the User chooses to disclose to IOM for a specific purpose. They identify the User’s browsing device to IOM’s servers via the User’s IP address and provide a variety of information, such as the area(s) of the Platform visited by the User and for how long. If the User returns to the Platform, IOM can determine whether the User previously visited a given page based on the cookie from his/her previous visit. The use of cookies is very common because cookies help Platform administrators meet the needs of the User(s).

Managing cookies: enabling and disabling cookies?

To limit the use of cookies, the User can set the browser to notify him/her before any cookies are installed on the User’s device, having the choice to accept or reject the cookie. The browser can also be set to disable cookies altogether. In case of disabling cookies, the User may not be able to use certain features on the Platform and may be required to re-enter information more frequently to use certain services on the Platform.

How does IOM use cookies?
  • To ensure the Platform is working efficiently.
  • To improve the User’s experience on the Platform.
  • To ensure that the Platform meets the Users’ needs.
  • To improve the Materials on the Platform.
  • To measure and improve the Platform’s performance and content impact.
  • To learn the location from which the User is accessing the Platform and in which language.
Third-Party cookie

The Platform may contain embedded third-party content or plugins, such as links to Facebook, videos on YouTube, photos on Instagram, Twitter, online news platform and other resources. Third parties delivering this content will often install cookies on your browsing device, and IOM uses these cookies for the same purposes as it uses its own cookies.

IOM does not govern the installation and other settings related to the third-party cookies. Therefore, it is recommended to visit the third-party Platforms directly to learn more about their privacy policies and use of cookies.

IOM cannot be held responsible for protecting the privacy of data collected by third party cookies even if they link to IOM’s Platform through embedded content or plugins. Most modern web browsers permit users to disable cookies from third parties while enabling cookies on the host site.
